Atos has unveiled Bull sequana, the first exascale-class supercomputer that offers thousand times more performance than current pentaflops-scale systems.

Atos’ Bull sequana will reach exascale level by 2020 when it will be able to process a billion calculations per second. The Bull sequana is 10 times more energy-efficient, and also 10 times denser.

Atos says its Bull sequana will be able to optimise the sustainability targets and space-efficiency.

“With Atos’ Bull sequana astounding compute performance, businesses can now more efficiently maximize the value of data on a daily basis. By 2020, Bull sequana will reach exaflops level and will be able to process a billion operations per second,” said Thierry Breton, CEO and Chairman, Atos.

Atos says its Bull sequana would offer real-time security and could be used in industries like medicine, agriculture or meteorology which demand exceptional levels of data processing abilities. Atos’ Bull sequana is currently being implemented at the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA).

While such super computers are primarily being deployed at major research centers, Atos believes Bull sequana has new usages and services to thrive.
