Google, Android N, Android N VR, Android N Virtual Reality, Android N, VR, Google VR, Google's VR feature, Android N update, Android N install, technology, technology news Android N will come with support for Virtual Reality and 3D Touch style features.

Google’s next version of Android could feature a Virtual Reality Mode, and support for pressure sensitive displays, similar to the 3D Touch that we’ve seen in Apple’s iPhone 6s series. Google recently rolled out another update to Android N developer preview, which brought a new set of Emojis, launcher shortcuts, and Vulcan API for better graphics.

Now it would appear that a VR mode and support for a 3D-Touch style feature have also been spotted on the latest update. ArsTechnica points out that apps will be able to register as either a “VR Listener” or “VR Helper,” in the settings.

The report says that it could be that when this VR mode kicks, the app with the granted permission will be able to run in the same mode. As far as the VR mode goes, there are not too many details on what it will feature and bring to the table.

The report also says that Android N appears to have a ‘sustained performance’ mode possibly to ensure that SoCs can handle a long gaming or virtual reality session without the smartphone heating up to an unbearable point, which is still a problem on many devices.

On the 3D Touch like gestures, Phandroid teamed up with Nova launcher to showcase the feature which appears to be working with the new Shortcuts. While its not really clear how this works, based on the video, it actually looks a lot like the current 3D Touch system on the iPhone. We’ll have to wait and see if Android N will support the ‘pressure-sensitive’ display feature or not.

Other new features of Android N include multi-window support, which will show more than one app at a time, interactive notifications, more background optimisation and a data saver option.

Recently Google’s parent company Alphabet announced its own virtual reality (VR) computing division and named Clay Bavor as the VP for the same.

So far on the VR front Google has launched the Google Cardboard, an action-camera with GoPro to enable 360 degree view in virtual reality. We’ll have to wait and see how the VR function fares out in Android N till is officially revealed.
