Apple has announced its update of the MacBook with better specs and a new color.

In a press release two days ago, Apple said it installed the “latest Intel processors, improved graphics performance, faster flash storage and an additional hour of battery life,” for the thinnest and lightest MacBook. Now available in Rose Gold, the MacBook can be purchased in four different color aluminum finishes. The other three are gold, silver and space gray.

Under the hood

Although Apple claims that the improved hardware on the new MacBook is better all around, The Verge discovered that the “mid-tier” 2016 MacBook with 1.2 GHz processor is just “about 20 percent faster” than the mid-tier MacBook from last year. A measly improvement at most, the 1.2 GHz however can be turbo boosted up to 2.7 GHz. It’s top-tier 1.3 GHz core through turbo boost can reach 3.1 GHz.

Meanwhile, for the GPU, 9to5Mac pointed out that Apple‘s estimate of the Intel HD Graphics 515 on the new MacBook is actually more conservative than Intel’s. The tech company said that the Intel HD  515 is only 25 percent faster than the GPU on the previous MacBook. Intel, however, is saying that it is “up to 41 percent faster” than the HD 5300 on the 2015 laptop.

Besides the improved battery life with a 41.4 watt-hour battery, the MacBook can also be charged with a power bank through the USB-C port. Compared with the previous 39.7 watt-hour battery on the old MacBook, the new laptop can now last up to 10 hours of browsing and 11 hours of movie playback.

The memory and storage space are also faster on the 2016 MacBook. It is equipped with an 8GB, 1866 MHz LPDDR3 RAM and 256GB or 512GB variants of solid-state storage.

Where to buy

Starting April 19, the new MacBook is available on Apple’s website and official retail stores. Selected Apple authorized resellers will begin selling units a day later on April 20. The 1.1 GHz core, 256GB storage MacBook can be bought for $1,299. While the MacBook with 1.2 GHz core and 512GB hard drive is available for 1,599. Lastly, the 1.3 GHz and more than half a terabyte of HD-equipped MacBook is available for configure-to-order options.
