What is good

The first thing here has to be the design. Though I am not a big fan of the faux gold frame, the overall ID of the phone gives it a premium look, certainly much more than what you are paying for. The display is pretty good to look at, and works reasonably well in sunlight too. Of course, there are better HD panels out there, but at this price I don’t think a lot of people will complain.

The phone gives you the option of using Hindi, and this is good given the target audience. Micromax tasted sweet success with the Unite series and seems to have learnt how to keep India happy. The phone also comes with a easy Hindi keyboard.

Micromax seems to be looking at new options when it comes to chipsets and has used the Spreadtrum SC7731 chipset on this phone. However, the overall performance of the phone will not result in a lot of complaints from users. I tried most use cases and there was no lag or stutter. Even with regular games, the phone responded well. However, this one is not made for graphic-heavy games. And multi-tab browsing was easy too.

The camera is good when the light is good. It has limitations with focus but you will have no issues taking a photo of your classmate or a selfie. I was also impressed by the response of the camera, which was quite fast.

What is not that good

There seems to be a bit of a gap between the display and the screen protecting it so you will take time adjusting to typing on this screen with minimum error.

The phone has a bit of warmth at the back all throughout. It is not hot, but the warm rear will bug you a bit. Also, I fear this might become a bit hotter later on or while executing certain tasks.

Micromax Canvas Spark 3 appears like a good option for budget users and for those looking to pick a device for their children in school or college.

The UI has been tweaked by Micromax. Though the extra-large icons might be good for first time smartphone users, it might put off a lot of others.

The phone, as is usual with Micromax, comes packed with bloatware, which uses up almost half of the 8GB storage space.

Should you buy

This phone appears like a good option for budget users and for those looking to pick a device for their children in school or college. It is one of the better entry-level options and will keep you happy as long as you are not too demanding.
